    hey it’s Eli
    I’m back
and today we’re look at a brand new episode
    00:08
    of a brand new series
    it’s called friends
    00:10
    it’s funny
    it’s good
and it’s gonna help you learn English
    00:14
    alright
so today we’re gonna look at two new vocabulary words
    00:19
one of them is what it means “to date”
    00:23
    okay
    to date another person
    00:26
and the other is what it means “to go out with someone”
    00:30
    all right
    00:31
plus we have one more revolution English tip of the day for you
    all right
    00:36
it’s something you can do every day
right here on these videos to learn english more quickly
    00:41
    alright
    00:43
and here we go let’s get warmed up with your clip
    ready?
    let’s do this
    00:50
    there’s nothing to tell
just some guy I work with
    00:54
    come on
you are going out with a guy?
    00:58
there’s got to be something wrong with him
    01:00
so does he have a hump and a hairpiece?
    01:07
    wait
    does he eat chalk?
    01:19
this is not even a date
it’s just two people going out to dinner and not having sex
    01:21
sounds like a date to me!
    01:25
    hold on a second
    01:28
there’s a couple of key vocabulary words in there that I want to go back and look at
    01:32
so we can fully appreciate that scene together
    01:35
so first let’s go back and listen to how he talked about
    going out with someone
    all right?
    01:46
    because it was funny
    let’s watch that scene
    01:47
and then we’ll be right back to talk about
    what it means
    01:59
you’re going out with a guy
there’s got to be something wrong with him
    02:01
did you catch that he said?
    02:04
“if you’re going out with a guy”
that means if you and that guy are boyfriend and girlfriend
    02:11
there must be something wrong with him
    02:15
    which is funny I guess
    but anyway
to go out with someone means to be romantically involved with someone
    02:24
    all right
    okay
so the second part is a date
    02:27
okay– what does it mean to go out on a date with someone?
    02:30
well a date is a particular day and time
    02:33
    okay?
    02:36
so to have a date with someone
technically means that you have a time and place to meet with someone
    02:46
    however, in this context
    a date means two people
meeting at a certain place at a certain time
because they have romantic interest in one another
    02:58
    so that’s what it means
    03:00
to go out on a date
    03:04
so now that you know what it means to go out with someone
and now that you know what it means to go out on a date
    03:08
let’s watch that whole scene again
so that you can appreciate it
    03:14
and then we’ll be right back with your revolution English tip of the day
    03:18
    all right
    let’s do this
    03:20
there’s nothing to tell it’s just some guy I work with
    03:23
    come on
you’re going out with a guy, there’s got to be something wrong with him
    03:29
so does he have a hump and a hairpiece?
    wait
    does he eat chalk?
    03:45
    [Music]
    03:47
this is not even a date
it’s just two people going out to dinner and not having sex
    03:52
sounds like a date to me
    03:57
are you ready for your revolution English tip of the day?
    03:59
I hope so because I’m gonna give it to you now whether you’re
    ready or not 🙂
    04:04
    all right this is it
    it’s so simple:
    04:08
    when you’re watching a video
    any video
    04:12
pause it and repeat what was just said
    04:17
okay do you know how to pause the video?
    04:19
I’m sure you do if you’re a YouTube watcher
    04:20
but just in case you don’t,
    look for these two little
    bars that look like this
    click on them
    04:27
    that’ll pause the video
then you want to repeat whatever you’ve just heard on the video
    04:33
    whether it’s my voice
or whether it’s part of the show that you’re watching
    okay?
    04:38
because the more you repeat the way native speakers are speaking English
the more you’ll sound like them
so if you want to work on your accent
    04:46
if you want to sound more like an American
    04:49
    repeat what I say
or repeat what’s being said on a show like friends
    04:54
    okay?
because those are mostly American actors
    04:57
and they’re speaking in an American accent
    04:58
    so pause your television
    05:02
pause your video and repeat what you hear out loud every day
    05:04
    okay?
    all right.
    05:08
    Eli checking out
    we’ll see you soon
